I am a proud Mother of an Army National Guard Soldier. My story begins on Sept. 11, 2008 when I recieved a phone call from my then 19 yr old son to tell me he joined the service. My reply I think shocked him I said “what a noble, unselfish thing to do, I am very proud of you” while saying this shear terror ran through my veins. You see my brother has been in the Army (a helicopter pilot) for over 20 yrs. and has been deployed 3 times to Iraq but it is very different when it is your child. Boot Camp went by with many reassuring words of wisdom from me, and I shed many proud tears at his graduation. And now we are faced with his deployment, I am sure there will be many sleepless nights and tons of tears but he and I made a promise to each other we will count the days accomplished not what he has left. I miss him like crazy, but I am so very very proud to call him My Soldier, My Hero, My Son, My Danny. God Bless our Troops!
